6th Conference on Geographic Information Systems in Agriculture & the Environment

The GIS Research Unit of the Agricultural University of Athens is organizing a competition to select the Best Undergraduate & Best Masters Thesis, within the framework of the 6th Conference on Geographic Information Systems in Agriculture and the Environment.

The aim of the competition is to highlight and reward high-quality undergraduate theses that utilize Geographic Information Technologies (GIS) to understand, analyze, and address contemporary challenges in agriculture, the environment, and sustainable development.

Thematic Areas

Submitted theses should fall indicatively (but not restrictively) within the following thematic areas:

• Geographic Information Systems (GIS) in Agriculture

• Environment & Sustainable Development

• Climate Change and Environmental Impacts

• Natural Disasters (floods, fires, drought, etc.)

• Natural Resource Management

• Environmental Monitoring & Analysis

• Resilience of agricultural and natural systems

• Spatial analysis and modeling of environmental phenomena

Innovative use of GIS, the exploitation of open geospatial data, and the linkage of research with real-world needs and applications will be particularly positively evaluated.

Eligibility

Eligible for participation are:

• Undergraduate theses completed within the last two (2) years

• Graduates of all universities, not exclusively of the Agricultural University of Athens

• Theses thematically related to GIS, agriculture, the environment, sustainability, and climate

Evaluation

Submissions will be evaluated by a scientific committee based on:

• Scientific rigor of the thesis

• Originality and innovation of the approach

• Proper and meaningful use of GIS

• Applicability and overall scientific and social value of the work

Award

The winners of the competition will receive a cash prize of 500€

The announcement of the winner will take place during the 6th Conference on Geographic Information Systems in Agriculture and the Environment.

The competition aspires to become an institution for showcasing new scientific knowledge and to strengthen the role of geospatial technologies in agriculture and the environment.
